SXSW Flashback

March 10th, 2012

SXSW Flashback. I went to SXSW for the first time in 2009 and then again in 2010. It is a super-fun-and-fantastic festival that attracts some very interesting, innovative and creative people from all over the world. Interactive is definitely cool and worth your while, but I also highly, highly recommend staying for the music portion of the fest if you can take the additional time off.

Here are some video highlights of my maiden voyage to Austin 3 years ago. You can watch the full playlist on my YouTube channel. Please forgive the less than professional video/audio quality, but I was just having some fun – the purpose of my trip was more of a mini-vacation that year, not for work. These were filmed on my Kodak Zi6 that would sadly be stolen almost exactly one year later in New York City. Unfortunately for you, I do not have any footage of my birthday celebration that took place at the Devo concert. But that definitely happened. Whip it, whip it good. Enjoy!

Have you been to SXSW? Are you going this year?

“Off the Grid” 360 Degree Online Interactive Experience

December 21st, 2011

What if we could have a Google Street View of all the awesome, difficult-to-get-to places in the world? Well, the folks over at Wieden + Kennedy, in support of the new 2012 Honda Civic launch, created an “interactive 360 degree online experience” inspired by just that.

“Off the Grid” takes people beyond the ordinary and allows them to virtually explore places that they would otherwise probably never have the opportunity to see in real life. Except maybe that old sign yard in Vegas. I’m always impressed by the crew who films these sort of things. I’d have a hard time keeping my balance in some of those places, let alone having to carry or swim with all that equipment. Nevertheless, I would jump on the opportunity to create something like this. Who wouldn’t love to dangle 3D cameras from helicopters and bring exclusive, interactive footage to people all over the world? Amazing. da Vinci would be proud.
