Take Me Out to the Ball Game

April 10th, 2012

Hoppy Day

Baseball season is underway, which makes me a happy gal. We had a great time at the Toledo Mud Hens game the other day, even though they lost. Going out to the ballpark with family and friends is one of my favorite things to do this time of year! I think it makes it feel like summer is officially around the corner. Though I have been to several MLB games, I really enjoy the atmosphere at 5/3 Field for the old Hens.

Side note: There is one MLB game I haven’t been to yet that needs to happen – the Yankees. It’s on my bucket list. How about you? Do you have a favorite minor league team? Any major league game you’re hoping to get to one day? Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks! Have a favorite song about baseball? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

GE Healthcare

April 6th, 2012

A compelling story is often one that has an interesting and unique angle or perspective. I was recently impressed with GE Healthcare’s video which tells the story of its healthcare employees and their experience meeting up with cancer survivors – a group of people who benefitted from GE’s machines that both detected their cancer early on and that after treatments determined it was gone. The video is very well produced, but aside from its high production value, it also reveals the more human side of building medical machinery. Not something we think about every day. The idea to bring these two groups of people together was a great way to illustrate the impact these employees’ work has on the world and gave them the opportunity to meet the people who were impacted the most and likewise gave the cancer survivors an opportunity to meet the people behind the technology that assisted in their recovery. Have a look…

It Is Still a Beautiful World

March 30th, 2012

It’s true. I’m slightly obsessed with quotations. I really try not to overuse them, but they inspire me to think about the deeper things in life. I’d like to share one of my personal favorites with you today. It is so simple, yet full of meaning and gives me peace of mind every time I read it. I think it touches on the most important aspects of our existence and how we can choose to navigate the world. There’s so much negative news that I think we can get caught up in really starting to believe that all hope is gone and we’re headed towards inevitable extinction. Though there are definitely serious issues that demand our attention and action, there is still beauty in the world and – most importantly – in people. This is the philosophy that drives my thoughts and actions. How about you…what’s your favorite quotation? Share it in the comments below! Have an amazing weekend! Cheers!

~

“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

12-California-Dreamin'

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.” – Max Ehrman
